Jaap Daalhuizen and Phil Cash From Engineering Systems Design, DTU, together with Laura Hay, from the Department of Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management, University of Strathclyde, hosted the `Research Quality Moment´, as part of the 2021 Design Research Society (DRS) Festival of Emergence.

During the 2021 Design Research Society (DRS) Festival of Emergence, Jaap Daalhuizen and Phil Cash from Engineering Systems Design, DTU, together with Laura Hay, from the Department of Design, Manufacturing and Engineering Management, University of Strathclyde, hosted the `Research Quality Moment´; a session to discuss research quality in design research.

In 2021 the journal Design Studies will be publishing a Virtual Special Issue of Research Notes. Research Notes will, for the first time, provide a dedicated outlet for works focusing specifically on quality-related research issues in studies of designing, including research methodology, literature review, theory development, ethics, and research scholarship more generally.

Aligned with this new type of paper that Design Studies has launched - Research Notes - the ‘Research Quality Moment’ introduced a broad audience to the research quality dialogue, enabling design researchers to get involved and identify key challenges and opportunities to advance and generate impact.

In the 'Research Quality Moment' a selection of short presentations (2-5 min) was given by inspiring speakers, including: Colin Gray, Isabel Prochner, Danny Godin Chris McComb and Lin-Lin Chen as well as editors from across the field (total 30-40 min.), followed by a workshop (90 min.). The workshop examined the barriers and enablers to developing research quality across the design research field, identify areas of synergy across research approaches, and highlight concrete means of change in the community.
